Our Goal

The main goal of the Gene Therapy Institute for Hispanic Medical Research is to create biomedical research program to find the genetic and biochemical causes for diseases affecting the Hispanic community. The Institute also aims to develop novel, efficient and accessible therapies through translational research.

The Gene Therapy Institute scientists will research in the laboratory, to discover new therapies for use as alternative resources to cure prostate, cervical and breast cancer, skin diseases, and other diseases affecting not only the Hispanic but also the non-Hispanic population. The Gene Therapy Institute sees an opportunity to establish a medical research institute in California, where there is a large population of Hispanic people. The Institute recognizes not only the rapid Hispanic growth in California but also in the rest of the United States. The rapid growth brings also some health problems that are more common in the Hispanic community than the non-Hispanic. More significant, there is not a single profit or non-profit medical research organization focusing primarily on the Hispanic community.
