Welcome

We appreciate your interest in learning more about our medical research organization, the Gene Therapy Institute for Hispanic Medical Research, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Through biomedical research, we will investigate the genetic and biochemical causes to the diseases affecting the Hispanic community. We also aim to develop more novel, efficient and accessible gene therapies. The Institute received 501(c)(3) status in August 2007

The institute scientists will pursue laboratory research, leading to new therapies and alternative resources to cure prostate, cervical and breast cancer, skin diseases, and other diseases affecting not only the Hispanic but also the non-Hispanic population.

The Gene Therapy Institute will be an exceptional research institute that will be expected to be recognized by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and expect to receive research grant awards that to help us to establish as:

  1. The Cancer Research Program will be one of the priority programs, and includes future plans to be designed as a Hispanic Cancer Research program by the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
  2. The Aging Research Program will focus on degenerative diseases in particular Alzheimer and Parkinson, heart disease, and diabetes.
  3. The Stem Cell Research focusing on human umbilical stem cell, through grants awarded by NIH and State agencies.
  4. The Skin Research Program will concentrate its effort in basal and squamous cell carcinomas, and skin disorders, Psoriasis and Eczema, through grants awarded by National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin (NIAMS).
  5. The Biotechnology Research Program will include, the vaccine vector program, therapeutics program, genomics program, and biomedical engineering program, expected to be also funded by NIBIB.
  6. The Diabetics Research Program will focus on finding new therapies for diabetic diseases.
  7. The Health Education Program will aim to provide information specific for Hispanics to have a healthy life and disease prevention.

The Institute mission is to cure and develop novel, efficient and accessible treatments for diseases affecting the Hispanic community with novel medical therapies to help conquer diseases where current therapies are expensive, deficient or insufficient.
